How to Choose Room Colors

(June 20, 2013)

Believe it or not, room color has an effect on the mood of the people inside of it. Certain colors will go better with the intentions of certain rooms, influencing a persons psychological factors. Of course, this doesn't mean that you have to paint in that manner, but it is certainly interesting to consider and may enhance your home.

Red

Red is associated with increased energy levels and is good for creating excitement. It also stimulates conversation and makes a strong first impression. It is perfect for the living room or dining room, where people are often socializing.

Yellow

Yellow is related to sunshine and happiness. It is best for bathrooms, dining rooms, and kitchens, but should not be used in main color schemes. This is because in excess, it generates feelings of frustration and anger.

Blue

Blue is a calming color and can actual lower blood pressure levels and is recommended for bedrooms and bathrooms. It's also not a bad idea to use it in a living room to encourage guests to relax and chat amongst each other. Go too dark with your blue, though, and you risk causing people sadness.

Green

Green is associated with freshness and rest. It combines the positive qualities of blue and yellow, so it is often recommended for any type of room. Additionally, some believe that it helps with fertility and can relieve stress.

Purple

Purple conjures feelings of luxury and creativity in dark hues as well as restfulness in its lighter ones. Go with the dark for living and dining rooms and the lighter for bedrooms.

Orange

Energy is the word that comes to mind when thinking of Orange. This is perfect for exercise rooms where you want extra energy to work out, but should be avoided in bedrooms where sleep is the goal.

Neutrals

Neutrals include black, gray, white, and brown colors. These types of colors can be used as accents and can be added to enhance the existing color scheme.

Choosing the right color is more important than you think. And just as important is making sure the job is done right. Contact D and L Enterprises for expert interior painting services today.
